Pardon our progress! This is a new website and we expect it to take months to get all of our information on. It takes time to decipher and transcribe old records but we're working steadily. If you're looking for information or a page that isn't on yet, either check back later or click on our "contact us" page and email your request. We'll be glad to look up something for you...

Welcome to our web page! The Sebec Historical Society was formed in 1967 when a small group of Sebec citizens came together with the idea of preserving early town artifacts and recording the stories, anecdotes and histories that make our small town so unique. Shortly after, we acquired the only school building still standing in our district. Harriman School Museum now serves as home to the Sebec Historical Society.

From a handful of dedicated volunteers, we have grown to a membership of hundreds from across the United States and even a few overseas. Most have a family tie to our small hamlet.

Member's support, grants and local volunteers have helped us care for our museum building, add to our collections, microfilm and archive the early town records, create and maintain our website, produce and mail our newsletters, staff the museum and research requests. Recently, through a generous benefactor, the Sebec Historical Society was able to purchase a small, beautiful portion of land in Sebec and create a park for villagers and visitors to enjoy.

The historical Society also works hand in hand with the town's Preservation Committee and other area groups to help preserve and share the heritage legacy of this area of Maine. A new event for us is the annual Arts Festival, held the third Saturday of August each year, at the Nineteenth Century Park in Sebec Village.

Please browse our website and, if you are ever up our way, stop by the museum or Sebec Village and say hello.
